Apeiro worked with Jacob’s Pillow starting with an existing facilities study which led to a renovation project that included the demolition and rebuild of the existing stage house. New program space was added in a new basement level under the stage, while an expansive new stage house provides game-changing rigging and technical support space in the Ted Shawn Theater.

The upgrades included an eco-friendly air-cooling system, an expanded stage with greater usable width and depth and enhanced accessibility for both artists and audience. Work included the installation of a modern electrical system capable of supporting both incandescent and LED theatrical lighting as well as company switch power to support modern touring equipment. Additionally, a new orchestra pit, lower-level dressing rooms, increased rigging capacity, and HVAC systems were implemented, allowing for more complex productions while maintaining the theatre’s legacy.

Throughout the project, Apeiro Design supported Jacob’s Pillow with planning, design evaluations, and the selection process, ensuring the seamless integration of modern amenities with the theatre’s historic charm.
