Originally established in 1978, Trollwood Performing Arts School offered summer performing arts training with a temporary amphitheater in Trollwood Park. However, limitations due to flooding led to the acquisition of a 70-acre plot in Moorhead. In 2009, the new amphitheater, designed with input from Apeiro Design (Auerbach Pollock Friedlander), opened. It features a 3,000-seat facility with 1,076 fixed seats flanked by grassy berms accommodating blankets and lawn seating. Terraced seating for 900 is located directly behind the lawn and fixed seats. The 90 ft. wide by 54 ft. deep stage is protected by an arched roof, housing theatrical catwalks, supported by massive, curved glue-lam beams 36 ft. above the stage.

Audience accommodations are provided at both entrances, with concessions and restrooms below the lawn seating, shielding them from patrons’ view.
