The theatre, created in collaboration with Local Design Institute, CUC Architects, is an immersive experience for 1,500 spectators and blurs the line between performance and spectacle, physically moving the audience to a different realm. The soccer pitch-sized audience chamber includes two separate seating wagons each of which can revolve 360 degrees and traverse 27.5m providing two distinct experiences in one show. To further enhance the story, the upstage “great wall” set is segmented into nine movable parts that shift during the production. The massive video projection system supports complex mapping of virtual scenery and visual effects throughout the stages and auditorium, using 56 high-power laser projectors, a series of special mapping cameras and tracking devices allowing dynamic placement and alignment of the scenic images by the media server. The sound system uses nearly 1,700 loudspeakers under control of the latest DSP technology that allows voices, music and effects to be discretely mixed to any combination of outputs, including loudspeakers rigged above, built into scenic elements and in each of the audience seats. The audience is completely enveloped in an unparalleled visual and sonic environment.
