It seemed a natural fit for the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to invite KDFC radio station to share space in their building, the Bowes Center for the Performing Arts, in the heart of the San Francisco Arts District.
It was also a natural fit for Apeiro Design to be the lighting designer for the 70+ year old radio institution since Apeiro designed the lighting for the Bowes Center.
The KDFC Batishwa Miner Broadcast Center has broadcast studios, lobby/event space (of course with a piano), offices and kitchen for the staff. It showcases on air talent from the Conservatory and draws from the surrounding arts community, including the San Francisco Symphony and the San Francisco Opera. The main broadcast studio has floor to ceiling windows looking out to the event space so broadcasts are seen as well as heard by guests and the public. Consequently, lighting is an important component in both the studio and the event space. Apeiro Design made sure that the talent is well lit and the lighting is comfortable throughout the venue while complementing the clean, contemporary architecture.
