The exterior lighting presented a challenge with the need for consistent and relatively high light levels for security around the building as well as prevention of light trespass to neighbors and the natural environment. The solution came through specific placement of each exterior light fixture coupled with careful control of light distribution throughout the site.

The interior lighting complements the sleek, modern design of the building’s simple, articulated form. Direct/indirect lighting in the courtrooms is integrated with the beams at the ceiling coffers. The lighting reinforces the hierarchy of the courtroom functions through varying light levels and accent lighting: judge’s bench, witness stand, jury box, defense, prosecution and gallery. The lighting accommodates the audio visual requirements of the courtroom through the use of light fixture zoning and dimming controls.
