In 2003, Apeiro Design began work with Gehry Partners on the Signature’s proposed spaces at the World Trade Center Performing Arts Center. When Signature left that project Apeiro Design continued to work with the company as they explored alternative locations to develop Founding Artistic Director James Houghton’s vision of a facility to fulfill the company’s mission. During this time Apeiro Design developed programming studies for several site options with Signature. Ultimately Apeiro Design designed the initial concept plans for the current facility that were developed and fully realized in collaboration with Gehry Partners and opened in 2007. In 2009, Signature was awarded the Regional Theatre Tony Award.

The Signature Center has four performance venues, rehearsal and administrative space organize around a central lobby which includes a café and bookstore. The four performance venues include:

• Irene Diamond Stage (294-seat end-stage)
• Romulus Linney Courtyard (199-250 seat flexible theatre)
• Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre (191-seat proscenium)
• Ford Foundation Studio Theatre (90-Seat studio space)
